Reasonable Suspicion Drug & Alcohol Training for Supervisors
Human Resources Professional Development
As supervisors we have a responsibility to keep our workplace safe and healthy. Concerns about alcohol or drug use on the job can be an intimidating subject. We know that work is often the last place to be affected by a person’s drug and/or alcohol abuse. When we see problems at work, it can be the tip of an iceberg. In this class supervisors will learn to detect the signs and symptoms when employees may be affected by alcohol or drugs on the job. We will cover physical symptoms consistent with drug or alcohol use, and specific objective grounds that create reasonable suspicion and warrant referring an employee for testing. Collective bargaining agreement and university policy language will also be discussed, including clear steps on how to respond in these types of situations.
